Data X Something — Is it really that easy?

I don't think so.

We often hear phrases like "leveraging AI," "driving efficiency," or "applying technology." While they may sound simple and effortless, turning them into reality requires overcoming numerous obstacles — and a great deal of patience.

We now live in an era where the ability to effectively apply large-scale, shared technologies defines success. Yet, existing laws, regulations, cultural norms, and organizational inertia often stand in the way.

This is where my strength lies: the ability to make things actually happen.

As a data leader, I have been part of the journey from a 30-person startup to a company with over 800 employees and a valuation exceeding 10 trillion KRW, building deep expertise in embedding data and AI into organizations — and in scaling those capabilities technically and strategically.

More recently, my role has shifted toward product. Data and product are inseparable, since every data initiative must ultimately translate into concrete outcomes — whether via the web, apps, reports, or files. In this sense, incorporating product experience into my career represents the final piece of the puzzle, completing the journey from data engineering to analysis, domain expertise, and ultimately, tangible results.

Experience

두나무

CDO - Chief data officer

My experience at Dunamu was truly exceptional. I joined the company in early 2016 and recognized early on the potential of integrating quantitative content into its securities trading app. I also contributed to the launch of Upbit, now one of the leading digital asset exchanges.

As digital assets began moving toward institutional legitimacy, I led efforts to develop tools grounded in traditional financial frameworks — such as indices, fundamentals, and sector-based data — helping investors make more informed decisions.

In addition, I spearheaded the launch of AI-powered services, including a chatbot for investor engagement and solutions that significantly improved back-office operational efficiency. These innovations not only enhanced productivity but also mitigated risk across the organization.

  • Built Upbit Data Lab to support rational, data-driven investment decisions
  • Developed in-house solutions through data analysis
  • Developed and operated the world's first digital-assets index
  • Launched various quant services on a securities trading app
